AKC is finally looking a little at protection sports instead of looking away from them. This very issue caused the divide between DPCA and UDC many years ago, and it remains a touchy subject. Here is a link to the AKC working dog rules, it is basically the same as a schutzhund trial with very minor differences. http://www.akc.org/pdfs/rulebooks/RES600.pdf

Has anyone been to or trialed at an AKC WDS event yet? I was trying to make it up to the one that was in Topeka in Oct but couldnt get off work. I'd be interested in people's thoughts on how the AKC is doing.
Also, i recently started training with a second club. Ive been out twice and really like it and get alot of help and great helper work. (The head of the club was the handler of the first american dobe to pass the German KORUNG). I noticed that during protection at this new club, my dog's bark has changed from a deep agressive bark, to a higher pitched prey bark. Any theories on the reason for this? I don't necessarily like it, but what do i know, maybe its a good thing they are tapping into his prey drive. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I remember reading about this on the akc site a while back but i never heard of anything afterward I wounder if they will expect other working tittles to be added to pedigree and i hope this new working sport doesn't turn into schutzhund with all the politics

There is an AKC trial here this weekend that I was hoping to attend but will be trialing at a different event the same weekend. It still is not recognized by the FCI but I do think it is going to be a successful program for financial reasons alone, the AKC has an interest in being the SV club rep. here in the states and has deeper pockets than USA schutzhund. The rules are all the same, the helpers are the same helpers that work USA and DVG events, it is just under a different umbrella. The titles will go on your AKC paperwork, but are not recognized by the FCI, you would hav to repeat your titles at a USA/DVG or other sanctioned event.
