My Dobes just turned 7 years old in July, Max is 2 weeks older then Jazz. I have raised the on science diet the whole time. I just put them on the 7 year senior plus food. I was wandering if any of you might have a better sugestion. I have been pleased with science diet as far as I can tell. Anything you might suggest? or will that food plus the Vitamin supplements I give them be ok?

Sorry I thought this would have been answered by now but since no one has answered I will give my two bits. First we have to define at what age and activity level a dog becomes a senior. I am a believer that regardless of age in a Doberman we feed them based on their activity level, and always supplement Glucosomine and Chondroitin Sulfate. Good joint health is just too important at any age. Short of that, once you have a diet you are happy with, feed based on the needs of the dog, if they are gaining weight, reduce protions r calories, if they are losing increase it. Any sudden changes should always b diagnosed by a Vet. I am currently feeding Royal Canin Maxi Large breed puppy to the whole kennel as well as trying a brand new food just coming to market that is grain free. On the subject of supplements, I use RC maxi L. breed puppy too. It contains both glucosamine and chondroitin plus I add a little more fish oil. Is this enough, and should i be supplementing anything else? I am asking this for my pup but also for as he grows up. Also, is it OK to get them at GNC or other people health food stores?

I think that is a good regime, if you want you can add vitamin E to the mix as well, I get fish oil and vitamin E at wal-mart I haven't found it cheaper anywhere.

Thank you much guys. you have been a great help. I have had them on fish oil for along time now, it works great. I just got back from getting some vitiman E.... and some more fish oil from Walmart. You are very spot on Steve, the fish oil is muuuuuch cheaper at walmart then where I was getting it from. I also stopped off to get some RC large puppy food. I got this from petsmart, is there a better place like maybe TSC or maybe co op? just wandering if there was.
