I have recently thought about trying to find some of my fathers old bloodlines. He was a small but dedicated breeder of Dobermans in Knoxville T.N in the 70's and 80,s. His last registered dog died in 89. and all I have is his and the dogs reg. names. I have looked around the A.K.C. website and couldn't or didn't see a dog or breeder database for this. Has anyone done this before or have any tips? My father had reached his goal with this last dog but tragically lost him before he could pass down his genes. I would really like to find a dog that can be traced back to him for my father as a gift. Any advice would be helpful as I have never tried to do this before. Thank you all.

If a google search fails you, then a look through the AKC studbooks is your only bet.
Steve Dobes are like potato chips, you really can't have just one...

Yeah, nothing by a google search but I'll try AKC again.I Mean they have to have it right? There has to be records somewhere if the dogs were registered or you would think.
